WORK EXPERIENCE

Ahlering Designs, Owner/Designer: July 2010 to Present

My graphic design work includes branding, advertisements, direct mail and web design.

My clients have included:
ASCE Books and Journal Divisions, BSI, CompuGain, Georgetown University Press, Georgetown University Library, Guiding Light Therapy, Kaminski’s Optimal Transcriptions, The Ornithology Exchange, and The Spine & Joint Institute.

My marketing work includes publicity for the Books Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to promote new releases to targeted audiences. I created and executed individual marketing plans for each assigned title, wrote press releases, set up book reviews, designed direct mail pieces, and researched advertisement and social media opportunities.

Georgetown University Press, Marketing Assistant: July 2010 to March 2012

I maintained and updated the press database, AllBooks, to fix glitches and enhance user experience. I worked with all members of the press, and the AllBooks creator, to locate areas where improvements can be made. Biannually I notified book distributors of Georgetown’s new titles through proprietary spreadsheets and ONIX feeds.

Georgetown was in the fourth year of redesigning their web site when I took control of this project. With my help, the developers launched the site in 9 months. I maintained the site to ensure it always had the most accurate and up-to-date information. I liaised between the staff and the developers to improve the site with new functionality as needed.

British Standards International (BSI), Marketing Coordinator: November 2008 to July 2010

I developed marketing campaigns for BSI’s service offerings and executed those plans with email and direct mail campaigns, webinars, white papers, case studies, and seminars. I tracked campaign effectiveness to determine return on investment. My webinars were the top lead-generating activity for the company while I was employed at BSI.

Columbia University Press, Marketing Designer: March 2006 to November 2008

I managed each promotional piece from design through production. I designed catalogs, posters, brochures, postcards, flyers and advertisements for new and backlist titles. I worked with printers to maximize product quality and minimize cost on each project. The resulting adjustments to the catalog size and printing process saved the Press approximately $13,000 on the biannual seasonal catalog.

Benartex Inc., Marketing Assistant/Graphic Designer: October 2003 through February 2006

As the marketing assistant I was responsible for writing copy for catalogs; maintaining and updating the web site; researching and creating lists of potential customers; fostering a positive consumer experience by executing direct-to-consumer promotions such as competitions and product giveaways.

As a designer, I developed logos for new quilt fabric collections. I also designed promotional and point of purchase materials including catalogs, flyers, tags, labels, product inserts, and posters. My other responsibilities included scanning, color correction, and photography for catalogs and newsletters.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, StylistSeptember 2003 to March 2004

As a visual merchandiser I executed designs for window and store displays for the museum and satellite shops in the New York City metropolitan area.
